‘Melangell’ (JP?) in a Pyrenean haven

This comment by ‘Melangell’ was posted on the Guardian thread on 02/08/2010…  (Ref. Jim Perrin’s false colours.)

‘When I visited Jim at his house in the Pyrenees last year…’ — it follows therefore that the year referred to was 2009.

Siân Melangell Dafydd, we feel certain, was not party to this. We have explained in previous postings that we are aware of a young Welsh woman of that name who was involved with Jim Perrin (note her dedication below) and we would not wish to hurt her. It is our belief that Jim Perrin hi-jacked her name, as in our opinion he has done with others’. She is a sensitive and highly talented author and is renowned in the Welsh literary world for her poetry and prose and has received many honours for her work. Such a young woman would not — could not — have knowingly lent her name ‘Melangell’ to those disgraceful entries on the Guardian thread concerning our sister and her family; note the sequence, which begins on the 24/07/2010. In the context of our site, however, we feel it is now appropriate to quote details — and her own words — of the genuine Melangell. Dr (?) Jim Perrin’s involvement with TGO

We noticed the following on Mark’s walking blog. He posted it on the 10/6/2011 and it was headed: ‘Re-vamped TGO magazine.’

There were flattering and well-deserved observations on the ‘new look’ and among the comments which followed was Alan Sloman’s:  ‘They have ditched Jim Perrin (did anyone ever get past the first three paragraphs without wondering what he was on?) and given space to writers who seem able to get their message across.’

Mark replied:  ‘I don’t think I ever read Jim Perrin articles let alone get past the first three paragraphs !!’  and Martin Rye said:  ‘Based on that I might start reading it again. Got fed up with paying for stuff I would not read like Perrin and water-pistols at dawn.’

These were opinions to which they were entitled but while ‘ditched’ Dr. Perrin may well (and some think should) have been, we note that somehow he has managed to cling by chalked fingertips to the dizzying heights of this prestigious title and, what is more, is now in a position to review the writing of others — both the quick and the dead. Deaf ears in the Welsh literary hierarchy?

Is all the information that we have discovered and made public about the author Jim Perrin falling on deaf ears in Wales? Apparently not minded to pay any attention to the details which we have been posting, the editor of the ‘New Welsh Review’ continues to credit him with her personal approval; even allowing to stand, in NWR, a review of West in which the reviewer used these accusatory words — by implication of our family and Jac, the sister we lost to cancer — ‘About the cruel and covetous behaviour of the immediate family of the recently deceased.’ Please see our post Pillaging. This was quite shameful as although the reviewer may not have known the facts, the editor had most certainly been told. Continue reading
