Waterstones (take 2)… they rejected the first review

Regarding West: the synopsis of this paperback is misleading and our review must necessarily include the information that our sister, Jac (Jacquetta), was not the author’s ‘wife’: indeed she planned to leave him.

‘Writers will write’ — he has said elsewhere — yet to claim as truth that which can be proved to be untrue, is not so much a writer’s stratagem as, we believe, a questionable practice. His style aside there are many considerable inaccuracies in West.

Amongst others, Jim Perrin does not come from the Welsh family background he claims in several passages, nor is he (fortunately for him) dying of ‘terminal lung cancer’ — pages 149 to 150, and 301 to 302 — and we feel that a review should, properly, point out these discrepancies when the book is claimed by its author to be autobiographical.

In our attempt to put the record straight — where our late sister is concerned — we have set up this site and we hope that ‘Waterstones:’ (in the interests of honesty and fair play) will allow us to invite readers of Jim Perrin’s book, West, to access it at: jacssisters.org.

But, they did not.

Jac’s sisters.

Waterstones rejected this review

The book West has already been exhaustively reviewed and in many cases we believe, pseudonymously by the author himself.  It was not, despite expectation, long-listed for the ‘Wales Book of the Year’ and the author is neither of Welsh ancestry as he pretends, nor resident in Wales.  We understand, incidentally, that the sales so far have been very low.

Jim Perrin lies when he says that our sister — the main character in the book — was his ‘lover, wife and friend of forty years’ and his questionable account of their short time together is so full of provable falsehoods that in our opinion he should be ashamed to have written it.

Jac, our sister, who was weakened with cancer, intended to tell him to leave her house — there were many reasons for her disillusionment, culminating in the author’s assault on her son, and she was making her plans accordingly: sadly she died of her cancer and Jim Perrin quite shamelessly exploits that too in ‘West:’. Our Amazon review of Jim Perrin’s ‘West:’

It cannot be doubted that Jim Perrin, the author of the book West and a man whom we had come to know when he was involved with our sister Jac, caused the deletion of our review(s) on Amazon. He could not have tolerated the truth of what we had written — and when the information we post on our site is read, it can be seen why this deceitful author should be so concerned!

We first set up jacssisters on 07/09/2010, as a direct result of reading the other reviews on Amazon; some, we were certain, written by Jim Perrin using aliases, and now removed, as well as reviews and comments in The Guardian by ‘Melangell’ (another Jim Perrin alias, and still to be read there). Since then, as a result of so much help and additional support our site has become lengthier than we anticipated, and with (we have been told!) an impressive amount of information. Such an irony, when this outcome is one Jim Perrin could neither have wished for nor foreseen…

The following is one of our deleted reviews; although despite its length it did remain for quite some time until it was later ‘purged’:  it must be clear to all, that Jim Perrin complained…

‘We note that West: a journey through the landscapes of loss is available in paperback. As our sister was the person of whom the author has written at length, we wish to show that the book is, in great part, based on lies and the misrepresentation of his short relationship with her, and we have found it to be extraordinarily self-indulgent. This book is claimed by Jim Perrin in his articles and in his interviews — to be ‘autobiographical’, although in his entry-note for the ‘Wales Book of the Year’ he categorised it as ‘Other’: it was not even long-listed for this prestigious award. (And we are grateful to whoever were the judges!) May we make it quite clear that our sister Jac, was NOT Jim Perrin’s ‘lover, wife and friend of forty years’. What he has written here is not only flagrant fabrication but it is also an excellent example of his modus operandi. As The Wanderer  wrote on this site, 21/11/2010,  ‘Facts are distorted, time periods are shifted to deceive and disorientate the reader… ‘  At best, what Jim Perrin has written is a fantasised account, at worst he has in places lied outright (of which we have evidence).
